Reading Matters

At Coalton Elementary School, we recognize that reading is the key to success in both school and life. As such, we partner with families and organizations to foster a love a reading in our students. Reading events are scheduled during school, at home, and over all holiday breaks and summer vacation. These events include:

  • Reading Challenges over summer break, Thanksgiving break, and Christmas Break​

  • Read Aloud Volunteer Program

  • Buddy Reading Program

  • Reading in the Park

  • Snuggle Up and Read

  • We Both Read

  • Celebrate Reading: A Month of Reading

  • Camp Read A Lot

  • Book Walks & Book Fairs

  • Book Exchange (partnership with the Coalton Community Book Exchange)

Title I

We are a Title I school. Our Title 1 Reading Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers and other interventionists to help develop our Support for Personalized Learning Program. Through this program we identify individual student needs and develop a comprehensive plan for meeting those needs. We regularly monitor student progress and use the data to address student deficiencies. We then provide student interventions in those areas. This individualized intervention program has helped our students to demonstrate significant growth and progress on state level standardized achievement tests in recent years. Title I helps to sponsor all of the aforementioned reading activities and our annual Back to School Picnic.

Coalton Elementary School partners with several local community organizations and agencies in order to provide services and resources to students and families:
